She sat on her bed as she listened to the rain pound against the window. Although it was a late summer day, they had been having freak thunderstorms the last week. The girl heaved a heavy sigh as she began thinking. She had to get things ready for school and already read a few chapters for her English Lit class. It was going to be another long year. Her parents were out of town for the week and she didn’t really have anyone to call or do anything with so she simply turned on her computer and logged into tumblr. Of course there was nothing new. Nothing from you. Nothing from the person she really wanted to talk to. Heaving a heavier sigh, she closed her computer and began to get ready for the day. After brushing her hair, teeth, and making her bed her phone rang. She thought that was rather odd seeing as it was early where her parents were and no one else would call her. Looking down at her phone she saw that it was you and her heart skipped a beat. Hesitantly and cautiously, she answered the call, “Hello…” “Hey…” You sang back on the other end. “Uhm…” the other girl said, quite unsure what to say. “I want to talk.” “Okay…” She continued, still afraid she was going to say something wrong. “I’m sorry for what I did. I’m sorry for acting out and saying those things to you that no one should ever say to anyone. No matter how mad they are at them or anything.” You said apologetically, “I just…I don’t want to get back together with you.” She clenched her teeth as she heard those dreaded words. As she breathed out, she replied, “I know. But I don’t understand half of the things you were doing before. Half of the things you were saying totally gave me the wrong meaning.” “I know.” You curtly said, “But I told you that I didn’t mean to be leading you on. You know I’m just curious sometimes.” Thankfully the girl was alone, for she frowned and shook her head. “You don’t ask people some of those questions if you’re ‘just curious.’ You don’t talk about somethings like that when you know the other person is deeply in love with you. I was trying to make it a point to not bring up certain things, but you still did and so I felt it was okay to talk that way then.” She could hear in simply your breathing that you were getting angry before you even spoke, “You need to get over me. You need to stop this. You need to date other people.” “Why do I need to date other people when I don’t want to? Why do you want me to so badly?” “Because you need to get over me!” You almost yelled back. You hadn’t wanted to start a fight and you surely didn’t want to make her cry, but you were trying to get a point across. You heard her voice slightly crack as she said back, “You didn’t answer my question. You answer with something you already said.” “I don’t need to answer your question! I called you and I can sure hang up if I wanted to!” “Fine! Leave like you keep doing! You keep saying that I’m the one that leaves you, when in reality, I have been here this entire time. I waited for you. I waited 500 days for you. Maybe I shouldn’t’ve done what I did, but doesn’t it prove something that I actually stuck around for you?” “No. It doesn’t. I can’t trust you. I can’t trust that just because someone says something, that you won’t break up with me and leave me again.” You replied as you began to dig your nails into your skin. “Then let me at least try.” The other girl answered with a bit of pleading in her voice. Without replying you hung up the phone. You couldn’t handle it. You couldn’t trust her again. —- You hung up, she thought herself as she began to form into a little ball on the sofa. She left you - again. She always try to talk about things and then when it doesn’t go the right way, you leaves. She pulled her knees in closer to her chest as she began to heave sobs into herself. She just felt so broken inside anymore; she just wanted to scream. Suddenly the doorbell rang. The girl bolted right up. Who on earth would be coming to the house? Did her parents call one of her neighbors to check up on her? Quickly she checked to make sure she looked somewhat presentable in the mirror, but instantly realized it was a lost cause. Glancing through the peep hole before opening the door, she thought she was going crazy, but once the door was open, she realized she wasn’t. Standing there, in the flesh, was….you. A slight gasp came out of her mouth as her heart began to pound so fast. “Wha—?” She began but you cut her off. “I was on my way down here to talk to you, but I figured I’d call to make sure you really were alone.” You explained quickly. “But….” She looked at you confused. “May I come in?” You ask so you didn’t have to stand out in the rain, although it had begun to lighten up. “Of course…” She said, still seeming utterly lost. You walk over to the couch and sit down and notice how puffy her eyes are and the wet spots the were on the couch. She was the first to speak as she down in another chair, “You drove all the way down here…to what?” “Talk to you…” You said. “Okay…” She replied, “Then let’s talk…”
