Love Excursion:Prologue - A Fiction Story

“Are you really sure this is a good idea?” I asked my girlfriend (and love of my life) after I loaded the last bit of our luggage into my car.

“Why not?” She questioned me with a raised eyebrow, “My family knows we’re together. Now the next step is finally meeting more than just my parents and brother.”

“Ya…but…” I began.

“No. No buts. We’re going.” She finalized.

That was the end of the conversation. She got into the driver’s seat and started the car as she waited for me to get in.

We were going to visit her family in the midwest, but I was afraid they’d react as badly as both of our parents did when finding out we were together (both of us girls). Her midwest family knew we were together, but they had never actually seen us together. And from what I gathered, they didn’t not accept us, but they weren’t anxious to see our wedding.

I slid into the passenger’s seat and smiled shyly at her as she pulled out of our apartment complex.

“I’m sorry.” I whispered to my girlfriend, whose eyes were concentrated on the road in front of us.

“Don’t be sorry.” She snapped slightly, “You know I don’t want you apologizing all the time. It makes me feel bad.”

“I know, but I am sorry…”

“You shouldn’t be. Do you really not want to go? I don’t want to force you into anything.” She glanced at me with that look of concern and then back at the road.

“No. No I do. I’ve always wanted to meet your whole family, you just know me though.” I said quietly.

“Yes, I do know you. I know how worried you get all the time. And I know how you look when you get worried. The cute little worry lines you get between your eyebrows and the frown that forms across the lips that I love to kiss. I do know you. And I love everything about you.”

I felt my cheeks become instantly red as I looked down at my hands. Quietly and without looking up I said, “I love you too. And thank you.”

One of her hands came off the wheel and took one of mine that I was fiddling with. Lightly squeezing it she told me, “Don’t worry baby girl, things are going to be okay.”

I looked at her and knew in her eyes that she was telling the truth.

That things were going to be okay.

They always would be when I was with her.
