After our slightly inappropriate make-out session, we actually got to work. We began bathing the dogs and cleaning some of the cages. After we finished washing Chewy, my girlfriend went off to go use the restroom. Now was my chance.
My heart felt like it was about to come out of my chest. I was almost gasping for breaths as I tried to calm myself down. She’s probably waiting for her date, the voice in my head said (date using as much disdain as foul object). Or friends. Or someone. But not me.
I got out of the car and softly tapped on the passenger window. She jumped and looked over at me. In her eyes there was a feeling I couldn’t exactly decipher. It looked a bit like a mix of anger, pain, and happiness. I felt my heart begin pounding in my chest though because I was so happy to see her.
She pushed back on me so that I was now laying on the bed. I felt her hands begin to rub circles on my exposed hip bones. Normally I would have told her to stop, that we were going too far, but something inside of me told me to let her keep going, that now was the time.

Lightly I placed my lips on her’s and dropped a hand towards her cheek. I stroked her cheek softly with just the tips of my fingertips until I saw her eyes flutter open. With my lips still against her’s I whispered, “Merry Christmas, darling.”
But I’m not going to promise I won’t hurt you. I can’t make that promise. I won’t. And I don’t want you to either. It’s a false promise on anyone’s part. True love causes pain, no matter what.
